YAROSLAVL, 23 Feb – RIA Novosti. The prosecutor's office of the Yaroslavl region has begun checking the videos published in the media about the beating of convicts in the colony No. 1 of Yaroslavl, the supervisory agency reports.
On Tuesday, Novaya Gazeta published a video in which, reportedly, officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service in Colony No. 1 beat two convicts. One of them, half-naked, they force to lie on the table and beat with truncheons. According to the newspaper, this convict has already served his sentence and was released. In the second case, the colony officers demand from the half-naked convict to sit down, he says he cannot. Then they forcefully put him on the table and beat him. The newspaper claims that after the beatings, the convict went to the hospital and died soon after. On the basis of these publications, the regional SUSK opened a criminal case.

It is noted that the Yaroslavl Prosecutor for Supervision of the Execution of Criminal Sentences decided to send the inspection materials to the investigating authorities for a procedural decision. If there are grounds, other measures of the prosecutor's response will be taken, the prosecutor's office notes.
In July 2018, Novaya Gazeta published a video of the mass beating of convicted Yevgeny Makarov by officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service in Colony No. 1 in Yaroslavl. According to the newspaper and the Public Verdict Foundation, which broadcast the video, the incident occurred in the summer of 2017. It caused a huge public outcry. A criminal case was opened on abuse of office, 15 people were detained.
The former deputy chief of the operational department of the colony No. 1 of Yaroslavl, Sergei Efremov, made a deal with the investigation and received 4 years in a general regime colony. Later, 13 more former employees of the colony were brought to trial. The consideration of the criminal case against another accused, former deputy head of colony No. 1 Ivan Kalashnikov, has been temporarily suspended due to his serious illness.
