MOSCOW, February 23 – RIA Novosti. Igor Yushkov, an expert from the National Energy Security Fund, named the timing of the launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. His words are quoted by “Look”.
Earlier, the Ukrainian foreign intelligence announced that the project would be completed on June 12, in order “according to the Soviet tradition” to time the putting into operation of the gas pipeline to the celebration of the Day of Russia.
Yushkov noted that these are only guesses of the intelligence department of Ukraine.
The expert specified that Nord Stream 2 will go through four stages before being launched. In the first stage, the pipes must be completely laid in German waters. The second stage is to complete the construction of a gas pipeline in the Danish section. The third stage includes commissioning works – checking the compression, pumping buffer gas into the pipe, testing different modes of the pipeline operation. At the fourth stage, the commercial launch of the project will take place. “Commissioning should be expected not earlier than September, and not by June 12,” he said.
The expert explained that the completion of Nord Stream 2 will not be tied to any day of the calendar.
“Ukraine is trying to create the impression that Russia is the heir of the Soviet Union, where it was customary to complete the next construction projects by some holiday date,” he concluded.
The project involves the construction of two pipelines from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany. The capacity of Nord Stream 2 will be 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
The project is opposed by the United States, which is promoting its liquefied natural gas to the European Union, as well as Ukraine and some European countries.
