ARKHANGELSK, February 21 – RIA Novosti. The Velsk dairy plant in the Arkhangelsk region has begun production of selenium-fortified milk, the press service of the regional government reports.
The production of products with antioxidant properties became possible due to the resumption of the work of the dairy, which became part of the Ustyanskaya Dairy Company LLC (UMK). The Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region Alexander Tsybulsky took part in the ceremonial launch of production.
For milk production, cows are fed with organic mineral supplements high in selenium.
“With such milk, you can occupy a completely different niche on the market – this is what is now lacking: today there is a demand for healthy products,” the words of Tsybulsky are quoted in the message, who tasted innovative products, and also appreciated the capacity of the dairy by visiting cheese shop. According to the chairman of the board of directors of “UMK” Alexander Fialkovsky, the company seeks to make milk with selenium a federal brand. “This is a truly unique product. It is present in Russia, but there is very little of it,” he explained.
The press service noted that the Velsk dairy plant has been in a difficult financial situation for the past few years. In 2014, it was sold to investors from St. Petersburg. Four years later, the Federal Tax Service revealed tax evasion in the amount of over 40 million rubles, and in February 2019, a bankruptcy procedure was introduced against the company. By mid-2019, agricultural producers in the Arkhangelsk Region stopped delivering milk to the plant and signed contracts with other processors. In the autumn of the same year, “UMK” decided to support the enterprise with the supply of the required volume of milk, but by March 2020 the plant had ceased to pay off debts for raw materials and decided to liquidate.
In September 2020, the Velsk dairy plant became part of the UMK structure; it resumed the production of pasteurized milk, sour milk products, hard cheeses, butter, cottage cheese, cheese curds and curd desserts. The plant has the ability to process from 50 tons of raw milk per day.
At the moment, the enterprise has started the first stage of modernization: equipment is being installed, a new automated shop for fermented milk products is being designed, and it is planned to expand the range of soft curd cheeses. The prospect of producing dairy products, which are still little known in Russia, is also considered. We are talking about membrane processing of milk and nanotechnology for obtaining anhydrous milk fat, the press service added.
