GAZA, 21 Feb – RIA Novosti. A consignment of 20,000 doses of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine arrived on Sunday in the Gaza Strip from the UAE as a gift, Quds Net reported.
Earlier on Thursday, Palestinian politician and MP Mohammad Dahlan said the UAE was sending a batch of 20,000 doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine to the Gaza Strip as a gift.
“This shipment of vaccine will be transferred to the Ministry of Health in Gaza and will create a system of protection for the sick and the elderly who are at the highest risk of contracting the coronavirus,” the agency quoted one of the leaders of the Fatah movement, Sofyan Abu Zeid, as saying.
“This is not the first time that we have stood at the Rafah checkpoint to receive assistance from the UAE thanks to the efforts of MP Mohammad Dahlan. Earlier on Wednesday, the Russian diplomatic mission in Palestine announced that vehicles with 2,000 doses of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine had arrived in the Gaza Strip. On Monday, WAFA reported that Palestinian Health Minister Mai el-Kela said Israel was preventing the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine from entering the Gaza Strip from Palestinian territories in the West Bank. A shipment of vaccine destined for medical staff was sent to the enclave on Monday, she said, but Israel prevented them from arriving.
Earlier in January, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) announced that Palestine was the first in the Middle East to register the Russian Sputnik V vaccine against the coronavirus.
