The head of the Pentagon promised to help Ukraine in the fight against “Russian aggression”

WASHINGTON, 20 Feb – RIA Novosti. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has promised his Ukrainian counterpart Andrey Taran assistance in the fight against “Russian aggression,” the Pentagon said.

The head of the Pentagon stressed that Washington “continues to firmly support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.”

“He reaffirmed the US commitment to building the potential of Ukrainian forces for more effective defense against Russian aggression,” the statement said.

Austin also pointed out to his colleague the need for reforms in the defense sector. Taran, in turn, thanked the head of the Pentagon for support, the US Department of Defense said.

“Minister Taran expressed gratitude for the continued support of the United States and emphasized the commitment to transform the defense sector of Ukraine in accordance with NATO principles and standards,” the Pentagon said in a statement.

Russia denies US accusations of aggression against Ukraine and emphasizes that it is interested in resolving the conflict in Donbas.
