Election committee member suspected of attacking riot policeman on rallies in Moscow

MOSCOW, February 20 – RIA Novosti. A new criminal case on the attack on a riot policeman was opened after an uncoordinated rally on January 31 in Moscow, the suspect is a member of the precinct election commission, senior assistant to the head of the Moscow head office of the RF IC Yulia Ivanova told reporters.

“The head of the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the city of Moscow opened a criminal case against a member of the precinct election commission. He is suspected of committing a crime …” the use of violence against a government official, “she said.

According to Ivanova, on January 31, a participant in an unauthorized rally in Moscow, near Komsomolskaya Square, hit a riot policeman with his fist. The investigation identified the suspect – he turned out to be a man born in 1977, a member of the precinct election commission. The name was not disclosed.

Uncoordinated protests took place on January 23 in different cities of Russia and continued on the 31st, despite numerous warnings from the authorities, including the danger of COVID-19 infection. In addition, uncoordinated actions took place in Moscow on February 2 during and after a meeting in the Moscow City Court on the case of Alexei Navalny.

In Moscow alone, as follows from the statistics of the Moscow City Court, several thousand administrative cases related to illegal actions were registered. In addition, criminal cases have been initiated on violation of sanitary rules during a pandemic, attacks on security officials and other articles. The detentions have passed.
