PYATIGORSK, 19 Feb – RIA Novosti. Investigators in the Stavropol Territory opened a criminal case after the tragedy in the Budennovsky District, where two girls fell through the ice, one of whom was saved, according to the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee for the region.
“On Friday … an 11-year-old girl was reported to have drowned in the Buffalo lake of the Budyonnovsky district. According to the investigation, the girl fell into the ice while walking with her friend. The second girl was taken out of the water unconscious by rescuers. The child was placed in intensive care of the hospital, “the message says.
It is noted that on this fact a criminal case has been initiated under the article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “causing death by negligence.”
“The ICR investigator examined the scene of the incident, interrogated eyewitnesses, appointed forensic examinations. Now the investigation is establishing data about the object where the incident occurred, and the persons responsible for the safety on it,” the IC added.
As the head of the Budyonnovsky district, Andrei Sokolov, said on his Instagram page, search and rescue operations will continue, since there was information that several teenagers could have fallen under the ice.
“The divers found and brought the body of the drowned girl to the shore. I express my deep condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Since there was information that several teenagers could have fallen under the ice, search and rescue operations will continue,” Sokolov wrote.
