The doctor told how to return the sense of smell after COVID-19

MOSCOW, 18 Feb – RIA Novosti. People who have lost their sense of smell due to COVID-19 can fully restore these functions in the future, says senator, doctor Sergei Leonov.

“I believe that the sense of smell and taste will be restored in the future. Each person has different periods for the restoration of nerve tissue,” the legislator said during a briefing at the Rossiya Segodnya news agency, answering a question from listeners who have faced loss of smell after suffering a coronavirus infection.

At the same time, he admitted that in some patients the sense of smell will not recover on its own, in this case the organs of perception need to be trained. “If the sense of smell is not restored, you need to train it with various pungent odors, it can be something from food, perfume,” Leonov gave an example. He explained that in this case, the same techniques work that we use to restore the body after an illness.
