MOSCOW, 18 Feb – RIA Novosti. An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 struck off the coast of the French overseas territory of New Caledonia in the Pacific Ocean, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The earthquake was recorded at 22.49 Wednesday UTC time (1.49 Moscow time Thursday) southeast of the Loyote Islands. The epicenter was located about 439 kilometers from the city of Tadin in New Caledonia. The outbreak was located at a depth of 12.6 kilometers.
Information about possible casualties and destruction, as well as the threat of a tsunami, has not been reported.
