The court sentenced the former military commissar of Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk region, accused of accepting bribes from draft-age citizens for exemption from conscription, a suspended sentence of 8 years in prison, the press service of the FSB department for the region reported on Thursday.
According to the FSB, the military commissar was detained by officers of the FSB of Russia in the Central Military District in 2019, along with two intermediaries, residents of Magnitogorsk. All of them, for a monetary reward, provided people of draft age with fake medical certificates about the presence of diseases, according to which the latter were recognized as being of limited fitness for military service. As a result, citizens were exempted from conscription, enlisted in the reserve and received a military ID. The damage from their actions amounted to more than 2 million rubles.
“The Pravoberezhny District Court of Magnitogorsk found the former military commissar of the city guilty of committing crimes under parts 2, 3, 5 of article 290, part 1 of article 285 of the Criminal Code of Russia (” taking bribes “,” abuse of office “) and sentenced him to 8 years in prison freedom conditionally, “- said in the message.
He is also prohibited from holding leading positions in the civil service and in local government bodies, in addition, he has been assigned compensation for damage in the amount of more than 1.5 million rubles, the message explains.
The FSB adds that the mediators of the military commissariat were convicted in 2020 for assisting in the illegal release of citizens from military service for monetary reward and sentenced to imprisonment for a period of 3 years 6 months and 5 years probation and fines in the amount of 150 thousand and 220 thousand rubles respectively.
