MOSCOW, 17 Feb – RIA Novosti. NATO is a vestige of the Cold War, the renewal of the strategic concepts of the alliance does not benefit the strengthening of security in the world, the Brussels generals are preparing for long-gone wars, Konstantin Kosachev, head of the international committee of the Federation Council, told RIA Novosti.
At the end of the first day of the videoconference of the heads of the NATO Defense Ministry, Secretary General of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO's strategic concept from 2010 needs to be updated, since the situation has changed, it does not take into account the rise of China and the deterioration of relations with Russia.
“NATO is a vestige of the Cold War, a military bloc that by its very existence violates the principle of the indivisibility of security in Europe and is incapable of solving any of the real global problems of our time,” Kosachev said.
According to him, the renewal of strategic concepts “will, of course, give courage to the Brussels generals, but will not carry any added value in terms of strengthening security either in Europe or beyond.”
“NATO generals, as before, are preparing for wars that have passed long ago,” concluded Kosachev.
Western politicians periodically make statements about the “Russian threat”. Moscow has repeatedly stressed that the Russian Federation will never attack any of the NATO countries. In the Russian Federation, they said that the West was simply using the excuse to place more equipment and battalions near the Russian borders. Moscow has repeatedly expressed concern about the buildup of the alliance's forces in Europe.
