Sputnik V vaccination begins in Bahrain

Dokha, 17 Feb – RIA Novosti. Medical institutions in Bahrain on Wednesday began inoculating residents of the kingdom with the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, the registration of which was given by the authorities, the Bahrain Ministry of Health said.

“In Bahrain, vaccination with a Russian-made vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus has begun as part of a national vaccination campaign,” the ministry said on Twitter.

The ministry noted that due to the large number of people wishing to be vaccinated, medical institutions were forced to abandon the practice of receiving vaccines one by one and leave the opportunity to do it only by signing up through an electronic application where you can choose a medical center and a vaccine manufacturer. All available vaccines are currently available in Bahrain from four manufacturers in the United States, China, India and Russia.

Since November last year, when the daily detectable number of coronavirus cases dropped to a hundred, Bahrain saw an eight-fold increase in this indicator until mid-February. Currently, there are more than 7.5 thousand patients with coronavirus in the kingdom, of which 157 need intensive treatment, 60 are in the intensive care unit. Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 114.3 thousand people have been ill in the kingdom, more than 106 thousand have recovered, 410 people have died.

The Bahraini Ministry of Health asked the residents of the small kingdom in the Persian Gulf not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary.
