Avalanche danger due to cyclone declared in Kamchatka

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, January 17 – RIA Novosti. The Kamchatka Avalanche Center announced a storm warning because of the increased danger of avalanches from the slopes of volcanoes and hills.

Earlier it was reported that on Wednesday a snow cyclone approached the shores of Kamchatka from the Sea of Okhotsk. The weather worsened in Ust-Bolsheretsky, Elizovsky districts, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Vilyuchinsky urban districts. Strong snow and wind are recorded here.

“In the period from 0.00 February 18 to 21, 2021, inclusively in the mountainous areas of Ust-Bolsheretsky, Elizovsky (especially the Paratunka river basin), including the territory of the Kronotsky reserve, Milkovsky and Ust-Kamchatsky districts, the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, as well as Vilyuchinsky, Kozelsky, Koryaksky and Avachinsky volcanoes are avalanche dangerous, “the message says.

Heads of organizations working in the mountains are advised to take avalanche safety measures. Fans of extreme sports, tourists, hunters should be extremely careful and, if possible, refrain from traveling to the mountains during the specified period.
