RIGA, 15 Feb – RIA Novosti. The ban on retransmission of the Russia-RTR TV channel in Latvia came into force at 00.00 (01.00 Moscow time), it stopped broadcasting on cable TV, the RIA Novosti correspondent reports.
In the cable package of the Riga television operator Balticom, when the Russia-RTR channel is selected, the text appears on the screen instead: “By the decision of the National Council for Electronic Media, the retransmission of Russia RTR in Latvia has been suspended for 1 year. From 16.02.2021 it will be replaced by the TV channel.” 1 + 2 “.
Earlier, the National Council for Electronic Mass Media of Latvia decided to ban the retransmission of the Russia-RTR TV channel in the republic from February 15 for a year. The Latvian cable operator Tet also announced that it will stop rebroadcasting the largest Russian TV channels – PBK (a rebroadcast of Channel One programs in the Baltic countries), NTV Mir, Ren TV Baltiya, Kinokomedia and Kinomix. The rebroadcast has stopped since February 1.
The authorities of the Baltic countries have repeatedly obstructed the work of the Russian media. The Russian Foreign Ministry announced clear signs of a coordinated line of these states. Cases of harassment of the media in the Baltic states, the Russian ministry noted, “clearly demonstrate what demagogic statements about the adherence of Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn to the principles of democracy and freedom of speech are worth in practice.”
