A test was registered in the Russian Federation to detect the British strain of SARS-CoV-2

MOSCOW, February 15 – RIA Novosti. The world's first test system for detecting the “British” strain of coronavirus has been registered in Russia, according to the Rospotrebnadzor website.

The Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor was the developer and registrar of the test system. According to the department, tests on clinical samples with confirmed mutations have proven its high accuracy.

As noted in Rospotrebnadzor, the new technology allows you to create reagents for detecting any mutations of the coronavirus, as well as other infections that require massive testing.

In mid-December 2020, it became known that a new mutation of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus had appeared in the UK. Later, British authorities reported that it spreads faster and requires more careful compliance with quarantine measures from the population.

Scientists have found no evidence that the new strain is more deadly or more likely to cause severe disease. However, a number of countries, including Russia, have suspended flights to the United Kingdom.

The head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova said that Russian vaccines will be effective against the new COVID-19 strain.
