MOSCOW, February 14 – RIA Novosti. Guinea's Ministry of Health has announced the start of an Ebola epidemic in the Guéque sub-prefecture in the southwest of the country.
For the first time since 2016, four deaths from the disease have been reported in Guinea, according to authorities.
“In view of this situation and in accordance with international health regulations, the Guinean government is announcing an epidemic of Ebola virus disease in the Gueke sub-prefecture, Nzerekore prefecture,” the Prime Minister's office said on Twitter.
The authorities recommended isolating anyone suspected of Ebola, as well as intensifying the work of the coordination and technical commission for the response to the disease. In addition, a center should be opened in Gueck that will work with patients, as well as accelerate the purchase of vaccines through WHO.
Ebola virus disease is an acute viral infection that affects humans and some species of animals. The Ebola epidemic broke out in West Africa in 2015 and mainly affected three countries: Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
