Armenian Emergencies Ministry denies rumors about the likelihood of a strong earthquake

YEREVAN, February 14 – RIA Novosti. The Armenian Emergencies Ministry denied on Sunday rumors about the likelihood of a strong earthquake in the country.

On Saturday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 and a force of up to 7 at the epicenter occurred 8 kilometers from Yerevan. The source of the earthquake lay at a depth of 10 kilometers. In Yerevan, according to the Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations, shocks of 5-6 points were felt. The Armenian authorities stated that, according to preliminary data, there was no destruction, the walls of several buildings were damaged. About 30 people received various injuries.

“Dear citizens, rumors are spreading on the network that a strong earthquake is expected in the territory of the Republic of Armenia, in particular in Yerevan. The Territorial Seismic Protection Service officially denies this information,” the statement posted on the agency's website says.

It is noted that the seismic stress is extinguished, the intensity of aftershocks has weakened. “We urge you to follow exclusively the official information of the Ministry of Emergencies,” the message says.
