The American company Facebook, which owns the social network of the same name, is developing smartwatches that it plans to release to the market next year, according to the online publication Information, which specializes in information on the technology industry, citing sources familiar with the situation.
The interlocutors of the publication said that with the help of smartwatches, users will be able to send messages through Facebook services and use functions for fitness and health tracking.
According to Verge, the device, according to preliminary information, will run on the Android operating system. According to the portal, Facebook is also working on its own “operating system” for gadgets, which may be installed on new versions of the device.
Earlier it was reported that Facebook, together with EssilorLuxottica (parent for Ray-Ban), will develop a new generation of smart glasses. EssilorLuxottica clarified that the name, characteristics, software capabilities, estimated price of the product and other details will be announced closer to 2021.
The social network Facebook was founded in February 2004 by 19-year-old American student Mark Zuckerberg. The headquarters are located in Menlo Park (California). Facebook also owns the services Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram.
