The expert estimated how much private laboratories earned for the pandemic

MOSCOW, February 12 – RIA Novosti. Tests for the determination of coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic have brought Russian private laboratories about 42 billion rubles in revenue, the Associate Professor of the Department of Statistics of the PRUE calculated for RIA Novosti. Plekhanova Olga Lebedinskaya. “With an average cost of a test of 2.3 thousand rubles and taking into account the fact that a significant part of the demand is formed by legal entities-employers, to whom diagnostic laboratories are ready to provide a significant discount (up to 30%), the volume of proceeds received by commercial laboratories should be according to the most conservative estimates, about 42 billion rubles, “she said.

The interlocutor of the agency also noted that such tests were a salvation for private laboratories last spring, when due to coronavirus restrictions, the flow of traditional research almost dried up.

“According to Rospotrebnadzor, as of February 2021, more than 105.3 million laboratory tests were carried out in the Russian Federation for the presence of coronavirus, of which only 15-20% are commercial. The rest is those carried out at the expense of the state. In some regions, the share of commercial medicine maybe higher, “she said.

She clarified that in May 2020, about 175.3 thousand commercial tests were carried out per day. The explosive growth began in June – 343.6 thousand tests per day, and the peak for laboratories was October-December, when the daily number of tests performed varied about 520 thousand.

“Mass tests for COVID-19 influenced the average check in medical laboratories: it grew from 1,742 rubles in the first quarter of 2020 to 1,940 rubles in the summer. This roughly corresponds to the prices for such a service in large networks,” the expert added.

The growth of revenue, according to Lebedinskaya, is also confirmed by acquiring data: in October in Russia, the revenue of medical laboratories increased by 22%, and the number of transactions with their participation – by 25%. “The most significant growth was shown by laboratories in which testing for coronavirus is performed. In October, their revenue increased by 30% compared to the previous month and by 70% compared to last year. The exception was the Moscow region: by 12% in volume and by 16% in terms of the number of transactions. At the same time, when compared with last year, the turnover of medical laboratories in Moscow has doubled, “she concluded.
