MOSCOW, February 12 – RIA Novosti. The chief cardiologist of the Ministry of Health, the general director of the National Medical Research Center of Cardiology, Sergei Boytsov, spoke in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta about the optimal blood pressure.
According to him, you can live without fear of a heart attack or stroke with values less than 140 to 90.
“And it is better to strive for a pressure of 130 to 80 and even lower,” Boitsov noted.
The specialist emphasized that hypertension is a chronic disease that cannot be completely eliminated.
“But it is possible, taking the drugs prescribed by a specialist for you, to keep the disease under control, to maintain a high quality of life. This is not one or two courses of therapy. This, I will disappoint, is often for the rest of your life,” the cardiologist explained.
Boitsov advised striving for a flat stomach as a means to combat hypertension, since belly fat is the most dangerous for the cardiovascular system.
“For men, the critical width of the waist is 102 centimeters or more. For women, 88 centimeters or more,” the doctor said.
Also, the physician recommends paying attention to physical activity, not overusing salt, quitting smoking and reducing alcohol consumption.
