MOSCOW, February 12 – RIA Novosti. A resident of the United States was charged with threats against American President Joe Biden, the authorities placed the American in custody, follows from a statement posted by the country's Ministry of Justice.
Law enforcement officers detained 27-year-old North Carolina resident David Kyle Reeves last Friday, February 5, and on February 11, he was brought to trial.
“Between January 28 and February 1, 2021, Reeves contacted the White House switchboard several times and threatened President Biden and others,” said a statement from the North Carolina Western District Attorney's Office.
The criminal complaint alleges that a Secret Service agent contacted Reeves on February 1 and discussed threatening calls with him. Reeves called him back several times during the day and “continued to threaten the President, the Secret Service agent and others.” In addition, Reeves, according to authorities, then contacted the Capitol police and “threatened in a similar way.”
After the hearing, the judge decided to keep Reeves in custody. The accusation of threats against the President of the United States, as noted, carries with it a maximum sentence of imprisonment for five years and a fine of up to 250 thousand dollars.
The Secret Service is investigating the case.
