Prosecution completes case statement on Trump impeachment trial

WASHINGTON, 12 Feb – RIA Novosti. The prosecution completed the case for the impeachment trial of former US President Donald Trump.

The politician is charged with the article “Incitement to Rebellion”. The prosecution insists that on January 6, after Trump spoke in front of protesters in Washington, the crowd went to the Capitol and took the building by storm.

The prosecution argued for two days, Wednesday and Thursday, in support of the theory that the ex-president was inciting a riot before the January 6 riots in the Capitol building. The impeachment of Trump is proposed to be carried out retroactively in order to deprive him of the opportunity to run for president in the future.

The main prosecutor at the trial, Rep. Jamie Raskin, said the ex-president might try to call for future violence if he is not impeached now.

Now the defense will have at least 16 hours, split over at least two days, to speak out against impeachment, followed by questions from senators, a possible questioning of witnesses and a vote. It is not known exactly when the Senate will vote.

Earlier, the House of Representatives, where the Democrats have a majority, impeached Trump, and the Senate yesterday ruled that the consideration of impeachment against the head of state, who had already left office, was in line with the Constitution.
