Gazprom wants to bring Nord Stream 2 into operation in 2021

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, 11 Feb – RIA Novosti. Gazprom wants to commission Nord Stream 2 this year.

This is stated in the presentation of Vladimir Vavilov, Deputy Head of the Department of Import Substitution of Technologies of the company. He presented it at the “OPK – TEK 2021” traveling inter-industry event.

Nord Stream 2 envisages the construction of two trunk lines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters per year from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany. The pipeline will also pass through the territorial or exclusive economic zones of Finland, Sweden and Denmark. The launch was originally planned for 2019.

The United States is promoting its liquefied natural gas into Europe and is trying to prevent the completion of the Russian gas pipeline. In December 2019, Washington imposed sanctions against companies participating in the project, as a result of which the Swiss Allseas immediately stopped work.

Laying resumed a year later: in December 2020, Nord Stream 2 AG, using the Fortuna pipelayer, laid 2.6 kilometers of pipes in German waters. The laying of two more strings in Danish waters is planned to be completed by the end of April.

In early February, Norbert Röttgen, chairman of the Bundestag Foreign Policy Committee, proposed introducing a moratorium on the completion of Nord Stream 2 in order to “take a break for negotiations.” But most German politicians are urging not to link the economic project to political differences.
