WASHINGTON, 9 Feb – RIA Novosti. Defender of former US President Donald Trump at the impeachment process, lawyer Bruce Castor, at the beginning of his speech, condemned the violence perpetrated by the participants in the storming of the Capitol on January 6.
He also stated that, like many others, he grieves for the policeman who died in the riots.
“You will never hear anything else from people representing President Trump, except that what happened on January 6, and the storming and seizure of the Capitol, must be condemned in the strongest possible terms, and the people responsible for this must be brought to justice in full measure. permitted by law, “- he said.
According to him, law enforcement agencies are doing a good job of finding such people and bringing them to justice. The desire to find the culprit is a natural desire, the lawyer added.
Then he praised the senators for some time, extolling the faith in them of the voters and the pride of people for their chosen ones. And people expect senators to act not as emotions dictate or imposed by the media, but as the right thing to do, Castor continued.
On Tuesday, the Senate will discuss the constitutionality of the impeachment process itself following Trump's departure from the presidency. Four hours will be devoted to the discussion of this topic, following which a vote will take place.
If the Trump trial is recognized as constitutional, the impeachment process will continue the next day, then the case will begin to be considered on the merits. Senators will discuss whether the actions of the ex-president at the rally, after which the crowd stormed the Capitol, can be considered incitement to rebellion. Each of the parties will be given up to 16 hours to present their arguments. After that, the senators, who are assigned the role of jury, will vote on the impeachment issue.
Earlier, the House of Representatives, where Democrats hold the majority of seats, impeached Trump on such charges.
