MOSCOW, February 10 – RIA Novosti. In the spring, due to high humidity and low, but above-zero temperatures in the Russian Federation, an increase in the number of coronavirus infections is possible, said Natalya Pshenichnaya, Deputy Director for Clinical and Analytical Work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, during the seminar “Influenza and Acute Respiratory Infections: Diagnostics, Therapy and Prevention”.
She explained that respiratory viruses, including seasonal ones, are active in high humidity, not very high temperatures, that is, in spring and autumn, when the temperature is from zero to plus 5 – plus 10 and almost 100% humidity.
“Viruses can multiply at lower and higher temperatures, and with drier air, but this is the most comfortable period for them. Therefore, many experts suggest that in the spring we may meet with a slight increase in the number of cases of COVID-19 , so it's not worth relaxing yet, “she said, answering the question of what the general confidence is based on that there will be a third wave of coronavirus in the spring.
