MOSCOW, Feb 9 – RIA Novosti. Authorities in Germany are eyeing Sputnik V because of the vaccine disaster in the European Union, writes publicist Konstantin Eckner in an article for Spectator magazine.
It is emphasized that if European regulators approve the Russian drug, it will become the fourth vaccine in the European market after the development of Pfizer / BioNTech, AstraZeneca and Moderna.
“It's easy to see why Germany might be tempted by the Sputnik V vaccine. The use of drugs from Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna is hampered by supply delays and political miscalculations,” the article said.
The author of the material claims that European regulators remain wary of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Eckner also drew attention to the publication in the authoritative medical journal Lancet of the results of phase III clinical trials “Sputnik V”. Tests have confirmed the drug's high safety and efficacy at 91.6 percent. According to the publicist, this news was the reason for “violent activity” in Germany.
“Germany welcomed the possibility of getting another vaccine, as there is growing dissatisfaction with the slow progress of vaccination in the country,” the journalist concluded.
Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that she had offered President Vladimir Putin assistance in registering the Sputnik V vaccine in the European Union, she stressed that the use of the drug in the country is possible only after approval by the European Medicines Agency. At the same time, the country – a member of the union Hungary independently purchases the vaccine in Russia, the same approach is now being discussed in the Czech Republic.
