MOSCOW, Feb 9 – RIA Novosti. The Polish studio CD Projekt RED, which developed the Cyberpunk 2077 game, was hacked, the personal data of players and users were not stolen, the company said.
“Yesterday we discovered that we were the victim of a targeted cyberattack, resulting in some of our internal systems being compromised,” the company said in a press release posted on Twitter.
The hackers gained access to the internal network, stole certain data and left a ransom message. The studio has attached a screenshot of the contents of the note. The hackers claim to have stolen the source codes for the games Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3 and Gwent, as well as internal administrative documents. Attackers threaten to sell or publish information online if the company does not make contact within 48 hours.
At the same time, the company reports that the backup systems remained intact. CD Projekt RED notes that it has already secured its IT infrastructure and started recovering data. The developer is not going to fulfill the requirements or negotiate with the attackers. “We are taking the necessary steps to mitigate the consequences of such a publication,” – said the studio. “We are still investigating what happened, but we can confirm at the moment that the compromised systems did not contain personal information of the players or users of our services,” the statement said. CD Projekt RED has already contacted the competent authorities, including law enforcement, in connection with the attack.
The action RPG Cyberpunk 2077 has been developed since 2013 by the Polish studio CD Projekt RED, known for the video games of the The Witcher series. The release of the game last December became one of the most anticipated events for gamers around the world.
