MOSCOW, 8 Feb – RIA Novosti. South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor is not in talks with US-based Apple on the production of autonomous electric vehicles, the South Korean company said in a statement. “We are not consulting with Apple on the development of autonomous vehicles,” Hyundai Motor said in a publicly traded statement.
At the same time, the company added that it is receiving applications from a number of companies for cooperation regarding the joint development of autonomous electric vehicles. “There is no decision yet, (negotiations – ed.) Are at an early stage,” Hyundai Motor said. According to the results of trading in South Korea, shares of the company fell by 6.2%.
Thus, Hyundai Motor confirmed unofficial reports on Saturday that Apple and South Korean carmakers Kia and Hyundai recently suspended discussions over the production of an electric vehicle. At the same time last week, several media reported that Apple is close to reaching an agreement with Kia and Hyundai to produce an autonomous electric vehicle under the Apple brand at Kia's assembly plant in the US state of Georgia.
Founded in 1976, Apple manufactures personal computers, tablet computers, audio players, phones, smartwatches, and software.
Hyundai Motor Company was established in 1967 and since 1999 it has been part of the Hyundai Kia Automotive Group. The headquarters are located in Seoul. The company is the largest automaker in South Korea and the fourth largest in the world; manufactures cars, trucks and buses.
