MOSCOW, 7 Feb – Project “Russia-China: Main”. The volume of shipments of 5G smartphones in China last year reached 167.5 million units, which is more than half of the total volume of shipments of smartphones for the year, according to the international company International Data Corporation (IDC), which analyzes the situation in the global market.
China shipped 60 million 5G phones in the fourth quarter of last year, according to IDC.
In total, over 325.5 million smartphones were shipped in the country last year, which is 11% higher than in 2019.
The company said fourth-quarter smartphone shipments rose 0.3% year-on-year to 86.4 million, with the largest sellers in the Chinese market posting positive sales growth.
The lion's share of the domestic mobile phone market – 38.3% is still occupied by Huawei. According to IDC, at the end of 2020, the total volume of its deliveries amounted to nearly 125 million units.
The other two Chinese smartphone makers, Vivo and OPPO, accounted for 17.7% and 17.4% of the market share. The fourth place belongs to Xiaomi, whose share was 12%.
According to IDC, the only company out of the five market leaders that was able to achieve growth in the Chinese market at the end of the year was Apple. This is due to the release of the new iPhone 12 series and the continued demand for the iPhone 11 series.
